2018 Penguins Capture PrimeTime Shootout Championship

The 2018 Penguins got off to a great start to this summer by taking home the 2018 championship at the PrimeTime Shootout at Babson College.

In Game 1 on Saturday, the Penguins took down the RI Bulldogs 12-8, but then fell to Team Central 8-1 in their second game of the day.
Although Saturday ended on a poor note, the team came back strong on Sunday.
“We started off strong early in the day, but the day ended on a tough note against a very strong Team Central team that got after us early, and really dominated both ends of the field,” said coach Tyler Low
Sunday’s big day started by winning their final two games of pool play — 9-3 over True Lacrosse and then 11-5 over Blackhawks — to advance to the playoffs.
In the playoffs, they beat the Clams 7-4 before advancing to the championship for a showdown against Team Central.
Team Central was the only team to go undefeated in pool play, so the Penguins knew they had their work cut out for them, especially after the first game, but they never gave up and ultimately came away with a 9-8 win in a 3 v. 3 Braveheart. A Tyler Grant face off win led to a Ryan Birch breakaway goal to seal the victory.
“I am very proud of the way our guys competed on Sunday, especially in the championship game. With the way Team Central dominated us and them earning a bye to the finals, our guys could have easily gone into the championship game a little bit down — instead, our guys responded in a bug way and competed hard for the duration of the game.” said Low
Sean Kim was strong in the Penguins cage throughout the playoffs, and Kyle Hirshom scored a huge game tying goal in the final seconds of regulation of the championship game.
The Penguins went 2-1-1 before falling to the eventual tournament winners, the NH Tomahawks, in the semi-finals last weekend at Bryant. They are looking forward to a big few days at the Legacy tournament this week.
