The first Penguins Box practice took place this past Sunday at Teamworks in Canton. Over 85 Penguins suited up in full box gear and participated in what was, for most, their first experience with the game of box lacrosse. Director of Penguins Box Lacrosse Alex Bunick on the first day, “We could not have been more thrilled with how the players grasped the concepts of box lacrosse. There were a lot of drills and ideas that were brand new to these players and by the time they scrimmaged they were already implementing what they had learned.”
The practice sessions were run by Kroy and Clay Arnold who have extensive box and field experience including playing for the Onondaga Redhawks Sr. B Team, and this past they Saturday were selected for the Peterborough Timbermen in the Arena Lacrosse League (ALL) which has just partnered with the National Lacrosse League (NLL). Both Arnold’s graduated from UMass-Boston in 2018 having also had great field careers. Clay’s box experience was a major factor his earning the honor of 2018 NCAA Division III Statistical Champion for shooting percentage. Both Arnold’s also competed at Onondaga Community College where they won NJCAA National Championships.
This coming Sunday, all sessions will be run Randy Frasier who is the current USLacrosse U20 Coach and operates the Boston Box Lacrosse League (BBL). Randy was a member of the original Boston Blazers (NLL) and helped coach the Boston Rockhoppers in the North American Lacrosse League (NALL).
