The Penguins Select Lacrosse program had four teams competing at the NH 64 Session 1 in Pembroke and Epping, NH. The 2021, 2022 Platinum, 2023 and 2024 Blue teams had some great victories amidst a summer of already impressive showings.
The 2021 Penguins participated in the AA bracket, competing against some very tough teams and dropping close games. The combination of Graham Wesel and Dalton McKinnon was dominant at the face-off X. Jack Norwood, Mike McLaughlin, and Max Ranta led the way on the offensive side of the field. Colin Norred shined in the cage with strong defensive showings.
The 2022 Platinum team went 2-0-1 with great wins against the RI Bulldogs and Seven Hills. They tied a very strong Kings team in a exciting back and forth game.
We were proud of the toughness and compete level showed by our guys all weekend — we pride ourselves on being a hard team to play against and the way that we rode set the tone all weekend. Colin Birch, Nolen Bearegard, and Aidan Webb led the way with physical play, and James Carr and Jaden Cronin set the tone for the Penguins on the defensive half. It was great to get wins over two tough opponents, and our Kings game was a great up and down game with several lead changes.Coach Matt Murphy
The 2023 Penguins had an impressive day going 3-0 with solid team wins against HGR, CT Valley and the Maine Mussels. Lorenzo Costello and Max Sian were dynamic on defense. Decker Hardin, Alec Enchill, and Will Buckley propelled the offense forward on a day that saw the team have a goal differential of +11.
The season has been dominated by great defensive play, and it was showcased again in our last 3 games. The Boys shutout HGR as a program for the summer season and only allowed 5 goals by two other teams. Saturday was also coupled by solid offensive play by the mids and attack. It was great to see how much they shared the ball, which lead to the most scoring chances we have had this year.Coach Jeff Heater
The 2024 Penguin Blue team went 0-2-1 with close games against the Cape Cod Kings and 4 Leaf Army. Similar to weekend before, they tied a Coyotes team 4-4. Max Becker played lights out in the net with strong defensive showings from James Hanley and Dylan Rogers.
“I was very happy with how the team got better after each game we played. We started strong against the Kings but couldn’t find the back of the net in the second half of the first game. The second game we had issues at the face-off x but made it work and managed to come away with a hard fought tie. The final game was our best all summer as we took on a very strong 4 Leaf Army team and competed the entire game. Overall, I was proud of how the team came together and looking forward to our final tournament on the 15th-16th.”Coach Jason Wellemeyer
